Term | Definition |
Air mass | A large body of air that has properties similar to the part earths's surface over which it develops. |
Hurricane | A large, swirling, low-pressure system that forms over the water. |
Front | A boundary between two air masses of different density, moisture, or temperature. |
Blizzard | Winter storms that lasts at least three hours with temperatures of -12C or below, poor visibility, and winds of at least 51 km/h. |
Tornado | A violently rotating column of airing contact with the ground. |
Cold front | The boundary of an advancing mass of air, in particular the trailing edge of the warm sector of a low-pressure system. |
Warm front | The boundary of an advancing mass of air, in particular the leading edge of the warm sector of a low-pressure system. |
Occluded front | A composite front produced by occlusion |
Stationary Front | Boundary between two different air masses, neither of which is strong enough to replace the other. |
Meteorologist | A person who studies the weather. |
Isotherm | A line that connects points of equal temperature. |
Station Model | Shows the weather conditions at as a specific location on earth's surface. |
Isobar | A line drawn to connect points of equal atmosphere pressure. |
