Question | Answer |
Compare and contrast properties and conditions of objects in the solar system to those on earth | On earth there are no meteorites comets or asteroids unless they fell to earth. Our earth has nitrogen oxygen water ideal revolving patterns and stable temperatures. Also our planet does expand and there's no such thing as fusion on earth |
What's the solar system | The collection of 8 planets and their moon in orbit around the sun together with other bodies planetoids asteroids comets and meteorites |
What's an asteroid | Large space rocks located in the asteroid belt between mars and Jupiter |
What a meteoroid | Pieces of asteroids and comets moving around in the solar system |
What's a meteor | Meteoroids that have entered earths atmosphere but not yet reached the ground |
What's a meteorite | Meteors that reached the ground |
What are comets | Frozen balls of gas ice dust and rock found in the kuiper belt |
Describe the formation of the solar system | Solar nebula forming stars and planets pressure creating density gravitational pulls keeping objects in there orbit nuclear fusion helping to create planets and stars as we know them |
Why do the planets all have different sizes and compositions | Color size gas temperature density gravity fusion chemicals |
In the 1600s Copernicus discovered that the planets orbit can be predicted why is this good | Because this helps us understand the solar system more so we know when a space object will hit earth and there was an interference in Uranus orbit and that's how they discovered Neptune |
Mercury | Mercury is the smallest it has a large iron core and has little to no gravity or atmosphere. Mercury has extreme temp swings depending on exposure to sunlight |
Venus | Hottest planet ever 900 degrees due to greenhouse effect it has a thick atmosphere composed of mainly carbon dioxide highly volcanic similar to earth in size and composition it rotates clockwise as well |
Earth | Earth is err fret in every way atmosphere made of nitrogen oxygen water and has an ideal rotation pattern Nd the temp remains at a stable leval |
Mars | Known as the red planet due to high concentration of iron on the surface it has a thin atmosphere mainly carbon dioxide and it has to moons |
Jupiter | The largest planet in out solar system there atmosphere consists if hydrogen and helium it mainly composed of gas and has 63+ moons |
Saturn | Is a large gas planet its atmosphere is also made of hydrogen and helium it has 60+ moons and it's famous rings consist of rock dust and gas |
Uranus | Rotates clockwise and sits on its side it appears blue do to methane in its atmosphere it takes 84 earth years to revolve around the sun Uranus core is made up of diamonds and is considered a gas ice giant |
Neptune | Is also considered a gas ice giant it also appear blue due to methane in its atmosphere it was discovered because astronomers noticed a gravitational interference in Uranus orbital path. |
