Term | Definition |
Charles Darwin | The scientist who developed the Theory of Natural Selection. |
Environment | The surrounding conditions in which an organism develops. |
Evolution | A gradual process in which species change into different and often more complex forms. |
Generation | A term used to describe the descendants of a pair of individuals. For example, the first generation is their children and the second generation is their grandchildren. |
Natural Selection | The process whereby organisms that are better adapted to their environment survive and reproduce to pass on their favourable characteristics (alleles). |
Survival of the Fittest | The characteristic (allele) that gives the most chance of survival and allows the organism to survive better than other organisms without the characteristic. Variation |
Variation | This describes the differences shown in a group of organisms. For example, fur colour or flower colour. |
