convection | the movement caused within a fluid by the tendency of hotter and therefore less dense material t rise, and colder, denser material to sink under the influence of gravity, which consequently results in the transfer of heat. |
law of conservation of matter | conservation of mass: fundamental principle of classical physics that matter cannot be created or destroyed in an isolated system. |
primary pollutants | a pollutant which is emitted directly into the air. |
climate | the weather conditions prevailing in a general area or over a long period of time. |
theory | a supposition or a system of items intended to explain something. |
volatile organic compound | organic chemical that have a high vapor pressure at room temperature conditions. |
photochemical | of, related to, or caused by the chemical action of light. |
smog | fog or haze combined with smoke and other atmosphere pollutants. |
ozone | a colorless unstable toxic gas with a odor and powerful oxidizing properties, formed from oxygen by electrical discharges or ultraviolent light. |
secondary pollutants | a pollutant which is not directly emitted but forms when other pollutant, primary pollutants, react in the atmosphere. |
