Term | Definition |
Nucleus | The center of an atom that holds protons and neutrons. |
Protons | Located in the nucleus. Has a positive charge and determines the element. |
Neutrons | Has no charge and is located in the nucleus. |
Electrons | Has a negative charge and is located in the electron cloud. |
Electron shell | The rings surrounding the nucleus where the electrons are located. |
Balanced force | All forces equal zero. |
Unbalanced Force | Net force is unequal and causes change in speed and direction. |
Force | A push or pull. |
Speed | The distance traveled by something in a certain amount of time. |
Acceleration | The change in objects velocity over time. |
Velocity | An objects speed and direction at a certain instant. |
Direction | The path in which an object moves. |
Newtons 3rd law | For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. |
Isotope | An atom with different number of neutrons than protons. |
Ion | An atom that has more or less electrons than normal. |
Safety rule #1 | Listen to instructions and follow directions. |
Safety Rule #2 | Be on your best behavior in lab. |
Safety rule #4 | Wear your safety goggles when working with heat, chemicals, and when your teacher tells you to. |
Safety rule #5 | Keep all lab equipment away from the edge of the table. |
Safety rule #6 | Handle your lab equipment very carefully. |
