Term | Definition |
Artery | Have thick walls and carry oxygenated blood away from the heart. The one exception is the artery that carries oxygenated blood toward the heart. |
Vein | Carries unoxygentated blood toward the heart. Has thin walls. The one exception is the vein that carries unoxygenated blood away from the heart to the lungs. |
Capillary | Very small vessels that make connections between arteries and veins, and between the circulatory system and other systems. |
