hypothesis | a hypothesis is a statement of what you think will happen during an investigation. |
observation | an observation is something you find out about objects, events, or living things by using your senses. |
experiment | an experiment is the use of scientific methods to test your hypothesis. |
variable | a variable is something that can change in a test. |
control group | a control group is the group that does not get the product. |
procedures | procedures are step-by-step instruction for completing a task. |
model | models are often used to study things that are very large, have many parts, or are difficult to observe directly. |
survey | a survey is a question that are answered by people. |
sampling | scientists examine random individuals from a population. |
independent variable | an independent variable is one that you can control. |
dependent variable | a dependent variable is the variable that is measured and will change when the independent variable changes. |
control group | a control group is a standard against which change is measured |
experimental group | the experimental group is the same as the control group except that one factor has been changed. |
data | information from which a conclusion can be drawn or a prediction can be made |
precision | the ability to constantly repeat a measurement |
accuracy | the ability to make a measurement that is as close to the correct value |
inference | a conclusion based on observations |
evidence | observations that make you believe something is true |
