food chain | a food relationship among plants and animals in a specific area or environment |
terrestrial organisms | plants and animals found in land habitats such as deserts, grasslands, and forests |
aquatic organisms | plants and animals found in water habitats such as ponds, marshes, swamps, rivers, and oceans |
consumer | an animal that eats other living organisms |
decomposer | an organism that breaks down decayed plants or animals into pieces that can be used by other living things |
producer | a green plant that makes its own food from sunlight, air, and water |
herbivores | animals that eat only plants |
carnivores | animals that eat only meat |
omnivores | animals that eat both plants and animals |
predator | an animal that hunts other animals for its food |
prey | an animal that is hunted by another animal for food |
popullation | a group of the same kind that live in the same place |
community | all of the populations that live together in one place |
photosynthesis | the process that producers use to make their own food with sunlight, air, and water |
interdependence | every living thing depends on other living things |
conservations | the careful use and preservation of our natural resources |
natural resources | resources found in land or water environments. These resources are usually limited and plants and animals in the environments compete for these resources. |
