Term | Definition |
Hypothesis | educated guess |
Variable | the part of an experiment that can be changed or could be changed in an experiment |
Independent Variable | changed on purpose |
Dependent Variable | responds to change. (Observe the change) |
Constant | the part of the experiment that are kept the same in each trial |
Control | used for comparison |
Trial | the number of times an experiment is performed. The more trials the more accurate the information. |
Qualitative | make observations using your senses |
Quantitative | observations are made with instruments. The result is measurable. |
Draw Conclusion | Are the results reliable? Do the data and observations from the experiment support the hypothesis? |
No perfect solution | Scientists know that there is no perfect solution to an experiment. The results do not always support the hypothesis. |
Revise conclusions | Scientists must revise conclusions as new evidence is discovered that does not match existing evidence. |
Skepticism | part of the scientific process to consider alternative conclusions |
