Term | Definition |
Baldy | plainly, explicitly. (same word as losing one's hair). PPl are someties shocked or offended when thigns are said too bluntyly or baldy. |
Belie | contradict or misrepresent |
Blight | Disease that kills plants rapidly |
brook | suffer or tolerate. often used with the word no. The dictator will not brook dissent; the dictator will brook no dissent. |
Countenance` | Approve or tolerate. It can also mean 'face' |
Ensure | If you guarantee something |
Insure | buy insurance for something |
Erstwhile | Former, previous |
Impute | Credit, attribute; lay blame or responsibility for. Bob made sure that all success were imputed to him and all failures were imputed onto others |
Mercurial | quickly and unpredictably changing moods; fickle, flightly |
