Animal and Plant Cell Structure and Function
| Structure | Function |

| Nucleus | The control center - directs all of the cell's activities including reproduction |
| Cell membrane | Protects the cell and regulates what substances enter and leave the cell |
| Cell wall | A stiff outer covering that protects the cell - found only in plant cells. |
| Cloroplast | Captures energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food for the cell. |
| Ribosomes | Works as a factory to produce proteins. |
| Mitochondria | Produces the cell's energy. |
| Cytoplasm | The gel-like fluid in which many organelles are found. |
| Vacuole | Stores food, water, waste, and other materials. |
| Golgi body | Receives material from the E.R. and sends them to other parts of the cell and releases materials outside the cell. |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | Carries materials from one part of the cell to another. |
