Animal and Plant Cell Structure and Function

StructureFunction
Nucleus The control center - directs all of the cell's activities including reproduction
Cell membrane Protects the cell and regulates what substances enter and leave the cell
Cell wall A stiff outer covering that protects the cell - found only in plant cells.
Cloroplast Captures energy from sunlight and uses it to produce food for the cell.
Ribosomes Works as a factory to produce proteins.
Mitochondria Produces the cell's energy.
Cytoplasm The gel-like fluid in which many organelles are found.
Vacuole Stores food, water, waste, and other materials.
Golgi body Receives material from the E.R. and sends them to other parts of the cell and releases materials outside the cell.
Endoplasmic Reticulum Carries materials from one part of the cell to another.
