Word | Definition |
Motion | The state in which an object's distance from another object is changing. |
Speed | The distance an object travels in one unit of time. |
Velocity | Speed in a given direction. |
Force | A push or pull exerted on an object. |
Net Force | The overall force on an object when all the individual forces on an object are added together. |
Unbalanced Force | A net force that changes an object's motion. |
Balanced Force | Equal forces acting on an object in opposite directions |
Friction | The force that one substance exerts on another when the two rub against each other. |
Acceleration | The rate at which velocity changes. |
Linear | The term used to describe the relationship between variables whose graph is a straight line. |
Nonlinear | The term used to describe a relationship between variables whose graph is not a straight line. |
Meter | The basic SI unit of length. |
Reference Point | A place or object used for comparison to determine is an object is in motion. |
