Question | Answer |
Variable | anything that you can change in an experiment that might effect the out come |
Independent Variable | a variable that is changed by the experiment |
Dependent Variable | a variable that will change due to the independent variable being changed. It is the one you mesure to get your results |
Conatant Variable | variable that is controlled (not changed) |
Conrolled Experiment | an experimant in which one and only one variable is changed in order to asses (juudge) its effect |
Standard | the basic procedure used in a controlled experiment; before changing any of the variables |
Capacity | the greatest amount of fluid a container can hold |
Density | the amount of amtter that will fit in a given space |
Archimedes | mathmacian and scientist who use displaced water to tell about an object |
Galileo | italian astronomer and physicist who thought pendulms could be used to keep track of time |
Wright Brothers | they created the first plane with the first flight |
Bessie Coleman | the first african american woman to recieve her pilot's license |
Chuck Yeager | the first pilot to break the sound barrier |
List the steps of the scientific mathod? | 1. state the question 2. collect information 3.form a hypothasis 4. test the hypothasis 5. observe, record, analyze data 6.draw conclusions |
What can a person do to get more accurate results in a experiment? | test it more that onceand get an average, use smaller units, and test all veriables |
Which variables were tested in the pendulum system? | length of string, hight it was dropped from, mass at the end of the string (bob) |
what is the relationship between the length of the string and the numbeer of cycles of the pendulum system? | the shorter the string the more cycles. The longer the string the less cycles. |
Which variables affect the number of passengers needed to sink the boat in the lifeboat experiment? | capacity of boat, conditionof water, and placment of pennies |
What is the relationship between the capacity of a boat and the number of pennies needed to sink it? | the bigger the capacity the more pennies. The smaller the capacity thelass pennies. |
What is the relationship between the mass of the plane and the distance it can fly? | the more mass the less distance it flys. The less mass the more distance it flys. |
Explain what determines whether an object will sink or float? | if its density is greater than thwe water's density it will sink. If the density is lesser than the water's density then it will float. |
What is the relationship between the number of winds of a propeller and the distance it can fly? | the mor winds the greater distance it flys. The less winds the lesser distance it will fly. |
What variables affected the distance a FOSS plane could fly? | the number of winds, and the weight of the palne, and the thickness of the rubber band |
Explain the purpose of a two-cordanite graph? | It allows one to make predictions about future trails |
