---|---|---|---|---|---|
Weather | State of the atmosphere at a specific time and place; determined by factors including air pressure, amount of moisture in the air, temperature and wind.
🗑
Climate | Average weather pattern in an area over a long period of time; can be classified by temperature, humidity, precipitation, and vegetation.
🗑
Radiation | Energy transferred by waves or rays. An example would be solar rays.
🗑
Convection | Transfer of heat by the flow of material. The movements of ocean currents as well as air masses occur through convection currents.
🗑
Conduction | Transfer of heat from one substance to another substance through contact. As in the transfer of heat from the ground to the air that it touches.
🗑
Specific Heat | The heat required to raise the temperature of one gram of substance one degree Celsius. Water has a high specific heat and requires a lot of energy to raise or lower its temperature.
🗑
Air Mass | Large body of air that has the same characteristics of temperature and moisture content as the part of earth’s surface over which it formed.
🗑
Front | Boundary between two air masses with different temperatures, density, or moisture; can be cold, warm, occluded, or stationary.
🗑
Pressure | Force exerted on a surface divided by the total area over which the force is exerted. Atmospheric air pressure decreases with altitude.
🗑
Equilibrium | A condition in which all acting influences are canceled by others, resulting in a stable, balanced, or unchanging system. When forces are balanced no wind or other changes occur.
