Why did Arthur Miller write The Crucible?   Arthur Miller connected the Salem Witch Trials and the Red Scare/McCarthy Trials and he felt a desire to tell people the significance of his connections.

Crucible definition   a container of metal or refractory material employed for heating substances to high temperatures.
