Question
Answer
Name properties of a good boat.   It doesn't have any holes or cracks. It does have tall and thin sides. it has a cup or a bowl shape.
🗑
What happens to the water level when more weight is added to a floating object.   The water level rises.
🗑
Displacement   One object moves out of the way to make room for another.
🗑
Mass   The amount of material in an object. We can measure the mass with a balance.
🗑
Volume   The amount of space an object takes up.
🗑
How did we measure volume?   We used the water displacement method to measure the volume of a solid.
🗑
Buoyancy   The ability of an object to float.
🗑
Sink   To go below the surface of the water.
🗑
Cargo   Total amount of weight that is carried by a boat.
🗑
Capacity   The amount that can be held by a container without sinking.
🗑
Property   The qualities used to describe objects (size, color, shape)
🗑
Why does a clay ball sink in water, but a clay boat floats in water. (Even if they are the same mass)   The surface area of the clay boat is larger than the surface are of the clay ball. (it is spread out more) so the gravitational force is less than the buoyant force, so the clay boat floats.
🗑
What did we use a graduated cylinder for?   to measure the volume of an object by using water displacement.
🗑
What would we use to determine the weight of an amount of clay?   We would use a balance scale to determine the mass of the object.
