caused by exposure to water or food contaminated with feces from people who have HAV

may be asymptomatic, but person is still a carrier and can infect others

hepatitis C virus (HCV) | begins acute, turns chronic
exposure to blood or contaminated needles
Is not transmitted by sex or breast milk
can lead to chronic liver disease, cirrhosis, and liver cancer
no vaccine
C is very serious!

hepatitis D virus (HDV) | secondary infection caused by a mutated hepatitis virus
Develops in patients who already have hepatitis B.
Known as Delta hepatitis
You can't get D without having B

hepatitis E virus (HEV) | similar to hepatitis A but rarely occurs in the U.S.
A&E are the same (like the channel!)
