| Narcotizing dysfunction | The phenomenon whereby the media provide such massive amounts of information that the audience becomes numb and generally fails to acti on the information, regarless of how compelling the issue. | ||||
| Opinion Leader | Someone who, through day to day personal constacts and communication, influences the opinions and discussions of others. | ||||
| Stereotypes | Unreliable generalization about all members of a group that do not recognize individual differences within the group. | ||||
| Surveillance function | The collection and distribution of information concerning events in the social environment |
