Polymyositis   A disease involving inflammation of the muscle fibers. It occurs when WBCs spontaneously invade muscles. The muscles mostly affected are those closest to the turnk. It is a chronic disase that is characterized by "flares" and "relapses."

Multiple sclerosis (MS)   This is an inflammatory disease of the central nervous system causing scarring and debilitation of the nerves. While the cause is unknown, a common theory is that the virus causes the immune system to turn on itself and attack the myelin of brain, spine

Myasthenia gravis   This disease affects mainly women between 20 and 40 years of age and men over the age of 60. It is chronic progressive neuromuscular disease thought to be the result of faulty transmission of nerve impulses to and from the CNS

Systemic necrotizing vasculitis   Affects primarily medium and large vessels. Inflammation and necrosis of the blood vessels develop the etiology of how this occurs is not clear

Kawasaki disease   Condition that causes inflammation in the walls of the artheries throughout the body. It is called mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome due to its influence on the skin, lymph nodes, and mucous membranes in the nose, mouth, and throat.

Polymyalgia rheumatica   condition that causes aching and stiffness of the muscles around the shoulders, neck, and hips. This usually resolves by itself, even if not treated, in 1 to 4 years

Fibromyalgia   Chronic condition characterized by tenderness of muscles and tender points, along with pain, body aches, sleeping problems, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and other symptoms. It can be difficult to diagnose.
