8th grade Science Unit 2 SECTION 6 PLATE TECTONICS

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Question
Answer
DRAW AND LABEL THE 3 TYPES OF BOUNDARIES   Convergent Boundary, Divergent Boundary, Transform Boundary
🗑
WHAT GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS COULD BE FOUND AT A DIVERGENT BOUNDARY,   Mid ocean ridges (sea-floor) spreading) and rift valleys.
🗑
WHAT GEOLOGIC FORMATION COULD BE FOUND AT A CONVERGENT BOUNDARY?   Mountains, trenches, volcanoes and island arcs.
🗑
EXPLAIN THE PROCESS OF SEA FLOOR SPREADING.   Process that happens at mid ocean ridges, where new oceanic crust is formed through volcanic activity and gradually spreads away from the ridge.
🗑
EXPLAIN THE THEORY OF CONTINENTAL DRIFT. WHAT WAS THE SUPERCONTINENT CALLED?   Continental drift is the movement of the Earth's continents relative to each other, thus appearing to drift across the ocean bed. The concept first put forward by Abraham Ortelius in 1596, was independtly and more fully developed by Alfred Wegener in 1912, but his theory was rejected by some for lack of a theoretical commitments. The idea of continental drift has been followed by the theory of plate tectonics, which explains how the continents MOVE.
🗑
WHO CAME UP WITH THE THEORY OF CONTINENTAL DRIFT? WHY DID PEOPLE BELIEVE HIM?   First was Ortelius, but most only know of Alfred Wegener. They didn't believe him because he couldn't explain what caused the plates to move, even though he could proved that they had drifted.
🗑
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FAULT AND A BOUNDARY?   A fault is a break in the rock where rocks move in different directions but a boundary is where 2 plates meet. So, not all faults are boundaries but all boundaries are faults.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
