8th grade Science Unit 2 SECTION4 and 5 LAYERS OF EARTH AND CONVECTION

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.
        Help!

Question
Answer
DRAW AND LABEL THE 4 MAIN LAYERS OF EARTH   Crust, Mantle, Inner Core, Outer Core
🗑
OF THE 4 MAIN LAYERS, WHICH HAS THE LEAST DENSE COMPOSITION?   Crust, Inner Core
🗑
IS THE INNER CORE A SOLID OR LIQUID> EXPLAIN WHY?   The inner core is a solid, even thogh the outer core is a liquid and the inner core is even hotter, the pressure on the inner core is great enough to keep the iron composition of the inner core a solid.
🗑
WHAT CAUSES CONVECTION CURRENTS INSIDE THE EARTH?   The extreme heat on the inside of the earth, at its core, which heats the partially melted mantle causing currents and circulation.
🗑
EXPLAIN HOW CONVECTION CURRENTS WORK.   The less dense molten material rises as it gets hotter, while the farther away from the core (and heat surface) the material gets the cooler it becomes. As it cools it becomes denser than its surrounds and begins to sink causing a circular motion or current.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
