What did the Selective Service System do?   Only 5 million Americans volunteered for service so this system ecpanded the draft and recruited 10 million more men

Despite the huuuuge contributions of minorities in the war, what problem still existed?   Segregation, the army was segregated and many minorities were not allowed to serve combatant positions

What was the industrial response to the war?   Factories switched from making goods for individual use to making goods that would benefit the war effort. Car factories made tanks, bedspread factories made mosquito netting.

Who was A. Phillip Randolph?   One of the many minority laborers who believed that minorities had a right to defend and work for the wellbeing of their country. Eventually Roose passed a law against discrimination

What were scientist's roles in the war?   They researched chemical warfare (the atomic bomb) as well as medicine (pennicillin)

how did the government take control of the economy?   They froze prices on goods with the Office of price administration and created the National War Labor Board, War Production Board, and the Department of Treasury
