Prophase   Before mitosis begins, the cell is copied and the nuclear membrane dissapears.

Metaphase   The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell.

Anaphase   The chromosomes seperate from their partners and go to opposite ends of the cell.

Telophase/cytokinesis   The cell splits in half to make two identical cells with 46 chromosomes.

Meiosis   Sexual reproduction that produces haploid cells.

Gametes/haploid cells   Haploid cells have half the normal number of chromosomes.

Diploid cells   Diploid cells have the whole number of chromosomes.

Homologs   Two chromosomes in a pair, one from your mom and one from your dad.

Egg cell   Female reproductive cell (half of the chromosomes)

Sperm cell   Male reproductive cell (Half the chromosomes)
