Reaction time   The time between onset of a signal to respond (stimulus) and the initiation of that response

Response Time   The time from the onset of signal to respond (stimulus) to the final completion of the response or action

Simple reaction time   A specific reaction to a specific response (one stimulus one response)

Choice Reaction time   Either a performer has to respond to several stimuli all requiring a response or they have to respond correctly to one from a choice of several

Movement Time   The time from the initiation of the first movement to the completion of the movement

Hicks Law   Reaction time will increase logarithmically as the number of stimulus response choices increase

Single channel hypothesis   Suggests that a stimulus is processed along a single nerve track and the brain can only process one stimulus at a time

Psychological refractory period (PRP)   Only one stimulus can be processed at a time so if a subsequent stimulus is received before the original one is processed there is an unavoidable delay

Spatial anticipation   The performer predicts when the action will happen

Temporal anticipation   The performer predicts what is about to happen
