DCA Controller | is responsible to the SD for providing tactical control and Battle Management (BM) of DCA asset. This normally includes picture calls, threat warnings, and directive targeting as required. See AFTTP 3-1.15 Ch.5 for a more in-depth explanation.

Responsibilities of DCA | Know CAP Asset information to include home base, capabilities (ordnance, SEAD, and EW), strike routing, airspace, CAP points, Ref points, etc.

Area Defense | Defense of a broad using a combination of weapons systems.

Point Defense | Conducted for the protection of a limit area, normally in defense of in defense of the vital elements of forces and installations

Self-Defense | Conducted by friendly units to defend themselves against direct attack or threat of attack through the use of sovereign airspace.

Alert Scrambles | During normal peacetime operations, aircraft pull alert duty at designated bases throughout America

Combat Air Patrols | In transition or wartime, aircraft are placed in predetermined CAP locations at the extremes of sovereign airspace.

Land Defense | Common DCA Option. Establishes areas or "lanes" in which specific aircraft are tasked to patrol and defend.

DEFCON 5: Fade Out | A normal readiness state where peacetime exists.

Air Defense Warnings Red: Big Noise-Apple Jack: | Attack by hostile aircraft, missiles or space vehicles is imminent or taking place.

Air Defense Warnings Yellow: Big Noise- Lemmon Juice: | Attack by hostile aircraft, missiles or space vehicles is probable.

Air Defense Warnings White: Big Noise- Snowman: | Attack by hostile aircraft, missiles or space vehicle is no longer probable. Warning White is normally declared only after the previous declaration of Warning Yellow or Red.

Weapons Hold Fire: | Fire only in self-defense or in response to a formal order to do so.

Weapons Tight: | Fire only at positively identified as hostile according to the current ROE

Weapons Free | Fire at targets that cannot be identified as friendly according to the current ROE

Cease Engagement | Break the engagement on the specified target; missiles in flight will continue to intercept

Cease Fire: | Do not open fire or discontinue firing; continue to track the target

||||
Bracket | fighter maneuvers to position themselves on opposite sides, either laterally or vertically of the targets

Crank | F-pole maneuver; implies illuminating target at radar gimbal limits

||||
Float | directive or informative call to expand the formation laterally within visual limits to maintain radar contact or prepare for a defensive response.

Notch | directive/informative for an all-aspect missile defensive maneuver to place threat radar/missile near the beam

Swept | formation with the trailer displaced approximately 45 degrees behind the leader

Container | formation with four contacts oriented in a square or offset square.

Lead Trail | Formation or two or more contacts separated in range.

Line Abreast | Formation of two or more contacts separated in azimuth.

Stack | Two or more contacts within GROUP criteria with an altitude separation in relation to each other.

Stinger | Three ship inner GROUP formation with two lead CONTACTs line abreast and the Single in trail.

Wedge | Three ship inner-group formation with a single contact closest in range and two trail contacts line abreast.

Bogey Dope | request for target information as requested or closet group in BRAA

Clean | No sensor information on non-friendly aircraft of interest

Continue | continue present maneuver, does not imply a change in clearance to engage or expend ordnance

Cleared | Requested action is authorized Note: Engaged/support roles not established

Cover | directive/informative call to assume a supporting position that will allow engagement of a specified track or threat to the flight if required
