Observation   Noticing something in the natural world.

Question   When something that you observe doesn't make sense.

Hypothesis   A prediction about future events based on what you know. Usually an "if"/"then" statement.

Method/Procedure   The steps you follow to complete an experiment.

Variable   Something that changes or varies.

Independent variable (IV)   part of the experiment that is changed intentionally by the scientist

Dependent variable (DV)   part of the experiment that is changed BECAUSE OF the Independent variable.

Control   part of the experiment that remains unchanged from how it occurs naturally

Constants   parts of the experiment that are the SAME for all variables

Results   The data that is collected after running the experiment.

Qualitative data   uses words and is based on observation and interview

Quantitative data   uses numbers and is based on survey, data collection, and measurements

Conclusion   an statement on whether the hypothesis was correct or not and an explanation of the results. Includes sources of error.
