Five Types of Co-Teaching   Lead and Support, Station Teaching, Parallel Teaching, Alternative Teaching, Team Teaching

Lead and Support   One teacher teaches while the other teacher circulates giving assistance. Usually Regular Education teacher teachers while the Special Education helps. The best way to help is helping the students with their guided notes, and answer questions.

Station Teaching   Individually planned content delivered separately by each teacher and at the midway point of the class they switch. EXAMPLES- Prewriting/editing, vocab words/game

Parallel Teaching   Joint planning, two groups, content delivered consistent and at the same time. Exact content, at the exact same time.

Alternative Teaching   Joint planning, equal content knowledge but one teacher teachers a larger group, while the other teacher teaches a small group. EXAMPLE- Taking students who are either ahead of the rest of the class or behind to either work ahead of get help.

Team Teaching   Joint planning and both teachers deliver instruction as one. This is the type that we should strive for. EXAMPLES- RE/PRE Teaching, one lecture while the other is writing notes on the board.

Accomadation   A change that helps a student overcome a disability. Usually they are seen as physical or environmental. Accommodations are for everyone. EXAMPLE- Allowing a student to answer questions orally instead of writing them down.

Modification   Generally connected to lesson/assessments that can be changed or modified. The change of what is being taught to expected from the student (standards). EXAMPLE- Reduction in homework or classwork

Inclusion   Philosophy that students with disabilities have the right to receive their education in a regular classroom with the support they need.

Instructional Technology   The theory and practice of design, development, utilization, management, and evaluation of processes and resources for learning.

Assistive Technology   Any item, piece of equipment, software or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. These tools will make life easier and increase independence for anyone with a disability.
