(1) Describe the crust.   We live on the crust. It is the outermost pat of Earth's layers and consists of water, trees, mountains, etc. The crust is divided into seven tectonic plates. These tectonic plates make Earth constantly changing.

(2) Describe the mantle.   The mantle is just under the crust. It is made up of hot rock and is around 3,000 kilometers thick. The mantle is made up of the lithosphere and the asthenosphere. It is 870 degrees Celsius.

(3) Describe the outer core.   The outer core encloses around the inner core. It is made up of molten metal, iron, and nickel (it is liquid). The outer core is 2,200 degrees Celsius.

(4) Describe the inner core.   The inner core is a solid, metal dense ball in the center of the Earth. It cannot turn into a liquid because the pressure there is so strong, it squeezes the atoms of nickel and iron. The inner core spins and creates Earth's magnetic field.

(5) What is oceanic crust?   Oceanic crust is thinner than continental crust. It is under the ocean floor, is made up of basalt, and is denser than continental crust.

(6) What is continental crust?   Continental crust is thicker than oceanic crust. It is found under land masses, is made up of granite, and is less dense than oceanic crust.

(7) What are seismic waves?   Seismic waves are waves of energy. They travel through Earth's layers and are the result of a volcano, earthquake, or explosion. They form in Earth's layers.

(8) What is the lithosphere?   The lithosphere is sandwiched in between the crust and the mantle.It is a hard, rigid layer and is mostly made up of stone.

(9) What is the asthenospere?   The asthenosphere is very hot, but less rigid than the lithosphere. It is soft and bends like plastic.

(10) What is a constructive force?   Constructive forces build up.

(11) What is a destructive force?   Destructive forces break down.

(12) What is the theory of plate tectonics?   The theory of plate tectonics is that pieces of Earth's lithosphere is constantly moving in slow motion from convection in the mantle.

(13) What is the theory of continental drift?   The theory of continental drift is that at some point of time, all of the continents formed one giant super-continent called "Pangaea" and then slowly drifted apart from each other over time.

(14) Who came up with the theory of the continental drift?   Alfred Wegener came up with the continental drift theory.

(15) Who came up with the theory of plate tectonics?   J Tuzo Wilson came up with the theory of plate tectonics.

(16) What is a divergent plate boundary?   A divergent plate boundary moves the crust on top of it way from each other.

(19) What happens when two plates carrying continental crust collide?   When two plates carrying continental crust collide, they both push upward to form a mountain.

(20) What happens when two plates carrying oceanic crust collide?   When two plates carrying oceanic crust collide, one plate is subducted through a trench.

(21) What happens when a plate carrying oceanic crust collides with a plate carrying continental crust?   When a plate carrying oceanic crust collides with a plate carrying continental crust, the oceanic crust is subducted because it is denser.

(22) Continue for question 1   It is divided into two parts: Oceanic crust and continental crust. It is the thinnest layer of the four and is thickest under mountains and thinnest under oceanic crust.
