Question
Answer
Wave   A disturbance that moves through matter or space, carries energy from one place to another.
🗑
Transverse Wave   Causes particles in matter to move back and forth at right angles to the direction in which the wave travels, high points in the wave are called crests and low points are called troughs.
🗑
Compressional Wave   Causes particles in matter to move back and forth along the same direction in which the wave travels.
🗑
Wavelength   The distance between one point on a wave and the nearest point moving with the same speed and direction.
🗑
Frequency   The number of wavelengths that pass by a point each second.
🗑
Law of reflection   The angle that the incoming wave makes with the normal equals the angle that the outgoing wave makes with the normal.
🗑
Refraction   Is the change in direction of a wave when it changes speed as it travels from one material to another.
🗑
Diffraction   Waves can change direction, which is the bending of waves around an object.
🗑
Opaque   Allowing no light to pass through.
🗑
Translucent   Allowing some light to pass through.
🗑
Transparent   Allowing all light to pass through.
🗑
Reflect   Hits a surface and then bounces back.
🗑
Absorb   Take in or soak up.
🗑
Transmit   When light hits an object, the light reflects.
🗑
Loudness   The sound level, or how well a sound can be heard.
🗑
Pitch   How high or low a sound is, determined by the frequency of the vibration.
🗑
Echo Location   The location of objects by reflected sound, in particular that used by animals such as dolphins and bats.
🗑
Echo   A reflection of sound.
🗑
Doppler Effect   The change in frequency of a wave as its source moves in relation to an observer.
