Astronomy   The study of the moon, stars, and other objects in space.

Axis   The invisible point about which a planet rotates.

Rotation   Spinning about an axis.  
🗑
Revolution   When one object revolves around another object in space.  
🗑
Orbit   The path that an object revolves on.  
🗑
Latitude   Imaginary lines that run West to East, and measure distances North and South.

Solstice   When the noon sun is overhead at 23.5 degrees south or 23.5 degrees north. Longest and shortest days of the year.

Equinox   Equal daylight and night.  
🗑
Vernal Equinox   The equinox occurring in the springtime. Marks the beginning of Spring. Around March 21st.

Autumnal Equinox   The equinox occurring in the fall. Marks the beginning of fall. around September 21st.

Phase   The different appearances of the moon as it goes through its monthly cycle.

Eclipse   Either solar or lunar eclipses can occur.

Solar Eclipse   When the moon comes between the Earth and the sun. A shadow is cast on the Earth. Only happens during the new moon.

Umbra   The darkest part of the shadow when an eclipse happens.  
🗑
Penumbra   The lightest part of the shadow when an eclipse happens.  
🗑
Lunar Eclipse   When the Earth envelopes the moon in shadow. Only happens when the moon is full.

Tide   The rise and fall of water levels.  
🗑
Gravity   The force that keeps all things on the surface of Earth. Gravitational pull depends on mass and distance.

Spring Tide   "Super Tide." Only happens in this order (sun,moon,earth)

Neap Tide   A smaller tide than spring tide. Only happens when the sun is at a right angle to the moon.

Satellite   Any natural or artificial object orbiting another object in space.  
🗑
Geosynchronous Orbit   When an object revolves around Earth at the same rate that Earth rotates. It appears to hover over one spot.  
🗑
Telescope   An instrument used to make objects appear closer than they really are.  
🗑
Crater   Round pits formed by impacts of meteoroids.  
🗑
Maria   Dark, flat regions. Galileo named them maria, the Latin word for "seas."
