| Ocean Shore Zone | This is the area where the ocean meets the land. It is also called the shoreline of the coast. It is affected by waves, currents, tides and storms.

| Beaches | These are shorelines made of sand. Shorelines are always changing because of wind and water..

| Sand Dunes | These sweep up in mounds and plants hold the sand in place. They are found on beaches.

| Barrier Islands | These are pieces of land surrounded by water on all sides. They are natural and function to protect the mainland from the effects of waves on its shore.

| Sediment | This is weathered rocks and other materials carried by wind and water.

| Estuaries | The area where a river meets the ocean is known as an estuary. They have a mixture of salt water and fresh water, also known as brackish water

| Inlets | These are the water-filled spaces between the barrier islands. As the ties change, the amount of water is the inlet will change, too. Ocean current and storms can change the shore of an inlet, too.

| Salt Marshes | These are found within estuaries. They act like a sponge during storms to soak up excess water. The roots of stems and marsh plants also act like filter for river water.

| Water Movement | The 3 main ways water moves in the ocean are tides, currents and waves.

| Currents | This is an opening movement of ocean water. Wind moving across the surface of the water can cause this. They move in only 1 directions.

| Waves | The repeated movement of water s known as a wave. Most ocean wave are caused by wind the blow across the surface of the water.

| Tides | Several times during the day, the level of the water the ocean shore changes. The tides are caused by a pull of the moons gravity.

| Spring Tides | When the Sun and Moon line up and pull in the same direction, this causes higher tides and lower tides, this normally occurs during full moon phases.

||||
| Neap Tides | When the Sun and Moon pull in different direction and their pulls partly cancel out each other. These occur during first and third quester moon phases.

||||
| Hurricanes | This and other large storms cause massive construction or destruction of beaches, barrier island, estuaries and inlets because they produce high waves, storm surges and heavy winds.
