Definition
setting   The time and place in which a story takes place.

plot   The sequence or order of events that happen in a story.

exposition   This occurs at the beginning of a story; the reader learns about the main characters, setting and beginning conflict of the story

rising action   This part of the story begins to develop the conflict(s). A building of interest or suspense occurs.

climax   This is the turning point ("wow moment") of the story. Usually the protagonist (main character) comes face to face with the conflict.

falling action   The conflict is being solved at this point, but it's not the end of the story yet.

resolution   The story comes to a reasonable ending.

protagonist   the hero / main character

antagonist   the bad guy / opposes the main character

static character   Character stays the same, doesn't change

dynamic character   Character changes over the course of the story

conflict   The struggle between two forces in the story

1st person   This is where the story is told through a main character's eyes.

3rd person limited   This is where the narrator is not a character in the story and talks about the characters. The narrator has a limited perspective and can only read one character's mind, feelings, and motive

3rd person omniscient   This is where the narrator is not a character in the story and is "all-knowing" . This type of narrator can read every character's feelings, motives, and thoughts.
