🗑
Gymnosperms are?   Plants that DO NOT produce covered and protected seeds.
🗑
Cotyledons provide what to the embryo?   Nourishment   A seedling no longer needs a cotyledon; it can survive on its own.
🗑
Living in trees.   Arboreal   Arbor Day: The day we recognize the importance of trees.
🗑
Aquatic means...   Living in the water
🗑
Sea and ocean life is known as _________ life.   MARINE
🗑
Terrestrial is:   Of the LANDS
🗑
Active at night...   NOCTURNAL
🗑
Active in the day...   DIURNAL
🗑
Where the organism lives.   HABITAT
🗑
The sperm cell unites with the egg cell is known as what?   FERTILIZATION
🗑
When the pollen grain transfers from the stamen to the stigma, we call this process what?   POLLINATION
🗑
An organism is....   ANY LIVING THING
🗑
I introduced the scientific method. Who am I.   SIR FRANCIS BACON
🗑
Seeds are scattered in two distinct ways. Name them.   Mechanical Dispersal Agent Dispersal   Mechanical: The plant disperses the seeds independently. An example would be a pod opening and dropping seeds next to the parent plant. Agent requires a separate entity to move the seeds from the parent plant. An example would be the wind or an animal.
🗑
I am the largest family of flowering plants. I have two parts to me; the disk flower and the ray flower.   COMPOSITE FAMILY   SUNFLOWER
🗑
The food making process for plants is called...   photosynthesis
🗑
Sessile means...   Leaves that attach directly to the stem.
🗑
Compound means:   When a leaf has more than one blade joined to the petiole.
🗑
In order for a plant to germinate, what must it have?   Moisture, oxygen and....   the right temperature.
🗑
The composite family is many flowers in one. It has the outer petals known as ____ and the center known as ____.   RAY FLOWERS / DISK FLOWERS   The sunflower is an example of a composite family.
🗑
The mint family has an unusual stem. Explain.   The stem is square and stout
🗑
The pea family has a nickname.   LEGUMES   I also return NITROGEN to the soil.
🗑
What family has fruits known as grains?   GRASS FAMILY
🗑
Corms and rhizomes. Do you know what family I am referring too?   Amaryllis Family
🗑
How are the flower arranged in the parsley family?   IN UMBELS   DUH!!
🗑
I have only one cotyledon, long slender leaves with parallel veins, petals in groups of three and a fibrous root system. What am I?   I am a MONOCOT.
🗑
I have two cotyledons, leaves that are broad with branching veins, petals in groups of four or five and a taproot system. What am I?   I am a DICOT.
🗑
I am the second step in Bacon's scientific method.   Gather information about the problem.
🗑
I am the last part to the scientific method.   State the conclusion.
🗑
I am the fourth part to Bacon's scientific method.   Test the hypothesis by performing an experiment.
🗑
After the experiment, what should I do, per Bacon's method?   Record and analyze.
🗑
Because plants make their own food, they are called....   PRODUCERS
🗑
Animals and people that eat plants are called...   CONSUMERS
🗑
The green pigment in a plant.   CHLOROPHYLL
🗑
Chlorophyll absorbs light energy that the plant uses to form the chemical ______   Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)
🗑
ATP releases energy to allow the plant to combine _______ and with _______ from the air, to make _________.   hydrogen atoms / carbon dioxide (CO2) / Glucose   Glucose is a simple sugar which provides energy for the cells of living things.
🗑
Cellulose is a what?   Carbohydrate   Found in the cell wall of plant cells.
🗑
Respiration combines ______ with ________ to produce energy.   glucose / oxygen   Photosynthesis occurs during the day but respiration occurs all day and night.
🗑
I support the leaves and flower, transport minerals and water and store food. What part of the plant am I?   STEM
🗑
My root grows straight down and remains larger than the other smaller roots around me. What type of root am I?   Taproot System   Think of the CARROT.
🗑
A fibrous root system is described as:   The primary root remains small and the secondary roots are also small and slender, shooting out in all directions.
🗑
Like the strawberry, this type of reproduction involves new growth from the root system but without seeds, flowers, or fruit. What is this called?   Vegetative Reproduction
🗑
Xylem is:   Tissues that carry water and nutrients from the roots hairs to the leaves.   The water is used in photosynthesis or released through the stomata. Xylem up!
🗑
Phloem is:   Tissue that carries sugars from the leaves to the stem and roots to be stored.   Phloem down!
🗑
Capillarity is also called...   Capillary Action   The tendency of water molecules to move upward through a tiny space.
🗑
Transpiration:   Evaporation of water from the leaves   Capillary action and root pressure aid in moving water up the stem but transpiration is the true method by which water moves upward to the leaves. The plant cells pull that water into the leaves.
🗑
Root hairs:   Hair like roots that pull water and minerals into the plant.   Water transfers into the roots through osmosis.
🗑
An underground structure made of thick, fleshy leaves that surround a short stem.   BULB
🗑

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.

To hide a column, click on the column name.

To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.

You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
