W-2 form   How much money was earned and paid in taxes throughout the previous year.  
W-4 form   Determines how much will be withheld from employee's paycheck for taxes.  
I-9 form   Form used to establish whether employee is eligible to work in the United States.  
Drivers License, Social Security card, Military ID, birth certificate   Documentation which must be provided to complete a Form I-9.  
Payroll card   Electronically carries the balance of the employee's net pay.  
Pay Period   The length of time for which an employee's wages are calculated.  
Direct Deposit   Employers directly deposit an employee's paycheck into his/her bank account.  
Paycheck   Traditional check and stub  
FICA   Federal Insurance Contribution Act  
Social Security   Provides retirement income for the elderly and disabled.  
Medicare   Provides health care for the elderly and disabled.  
Net Pay   The amount left after payroll deductions have been taken from the gross pay.  
Gross Pay   The total amount of money earned before payroll deductions.  
Year-to-Date   total of all deductions which have been withheld from an individuals paycheck from January until the last day of the pay period indicated on the pay check stub.  
I-9 and W-4   Two forms must an employee complete when beginning a new job
