What is PMII?   Peer Mediated Instruction and Intervention (PMII) allows for an increase in social opportunities within natural environments.

How does PMII work?   In the PMII model, peers are carefully and systematically taught ways to engage children with ASD in positive and extended social interactions in both teacher-directed and child-initiated activities.

What are some targeted behaviors?   i. Organizing play ii. Sharing iii. Providing Assistance iv. Providing affection and praise through hugging, putting arms around, patting, holding hands or shaking hands.

How is PMII Implemented?   PMII can be implemented with pairs or small groups across a range of ages from preschool through to high school.

Who do you use PMII with?   PMII is most useful with children with ASD who have limited communication skills and who rarely initiate or respond to social interactions with peers and who are not benefiting from group instruction.
