ANIMISM   belief that a spirit or force residing in every animate and inanimate object, every dream and idea, gives individuality to each  
BUDDHISM   the teaching of Buddha that life is permeated with suffering caused by desire, that suffering ceases when desire ceases, that enlightenment obtained through right conduct and wisdom and meditation releases one from desire and suffering and rebirth  
CARGO CULT PILGRIMAGE   belief by some Melanesians that western goods have been traded to them by ancestral spirits  
CHRISTIANITY   a monotheistic religion centered on the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth as presented in the New Testament
