What should outdoor play spaces provide?   Places to hide, small secret places, places with vegetation and living creations, and to be able to do BIG things, like being loud, climbing, jumping, etc.

What makes an outdoor space special?   It provides SENSORY STIMULATION, PHYSICAL OPPORTUNITIES, and MAGICAL/MYSTICAL/SPIRITAL places.

What is the nature of outdoor play?   It permits MESSIER, LOUDER, and LARGER activies, and affords the development of PEER CULTURE. Furthermore, it affords sensory stimulus and different social skills, such as complex language, bold, assertive interactions.

What is crucial for outdoor spaces?   VARIETY! It should have a balance of fixed/portable equipment, travelling routes and flat spaces, mixing of age groups, open functional spaces, sheltered enchanted spaces, and places "TO DO" and "TO BE".
