Access Copyright   The name of the Canadian Copyright Licensing Agency, which ensures that creators or publishers are paid when their copyrighted works are used or copied.

Copyright   The property right given to the creator or owner of a specific piece of work. The copyright owner gives others permission to copy, produce or reproduce their work.

Intellectual Property   Legal rights that deal with ownership on abstract objects. Can include: trademarks, copyright, patents.

Royalty   A sum of money paid to a patentee for the use of their patent or to an author or composer when their work is sold and/or publicly performed.

Trademarks   Symbols, words or slogans used to identify the goods or services of a person or company from others.

Public Domain   Works that belong to the public and can be used free of charge and does not require permission from the owner.

Moral Rights   The rights of an author to protect the integrity of their work.

Performing Rights   The rights of the copyrighted owner to perform music in public.
