| Moon Phases (Earth View) | A lunar phase or phase of the moon is the appearance of the illuminated portion of the Moon as seen by an observer. The phases are new moon, waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, waning gibbous, last quarter, waning crescent.

| Gibbous | A lunar phase either side of the full moon when the moon's disc as seen from the Earth is larger than a semicircle.

| Crescent | The curved sickle shape of the waxing or waning moon.

| Waxing | Describes phases following a new moon as more of the Moon's lighted side becomes visible.

| Waning | Describes phases that occur after a full moon, as the visible lighted side of the Moon grows smaller.
