| Population? | All of the members in a particular species in one area.
This could be all of the scorpions in the part of the desert.
This would ONLY include ONE species, not more than one.

This could be all of the scorpions, liards, and cacti in an area.
This would not include the abiotic factors.

| Ecosystem? | A community of organisms that live in an area, and their non-living surroundings.
Many different populations would be in this ecosystem.
This would be the desert where they all live.

| Biosphere? | The part of Earth where all living things exist.
This would include a place where similar organisms live.
The biospheres do not have to be near eachother.

| Scavenger? | An organism that feeds on the bodies of other organisms.
Vultures would be scavengers.
A deer would NOT be an example.

| Food Chain? | When an organism eats another organism to get energy.
All organisms are on the food web.
It say something like the small fish eats algae, which is then eaten by the shark.

| Food Web? | The pattern of overlapping food chains in an ecosystem.
If one part of the food web is removed, there would be disasterous results.
It would happen because every organism relies on another for energy.

| Energy Pyramid? | A pyramid that shows the amount of energy that moves through the food web.

||||
| Habitat? | A place where a specific organism lives.
An owl's habitat is inside a tree.
A bear's habitat is inside a cave.

| Niche? | How an organism in its habitat makes its living.
🗑
|
||||
| Symbiosis? | When two or more living things depend on eachother to survive.
Protozoans help termites digest wood.
Oxpeckers eat the bugs that infest the ox's back.

| Mutualism? | A relationship between two organims where they perform some action that benefits both organisms.
Fish ride under a shark's belly so that they can eat and clean up the shark after its meal.
A dog provides companionship to a human, and the human feeds it.

| Commensalism? | A realtionship between two organisms where one organism benefits from their interactions, but the other is not benefited or harmed.
A spider building a web in a tree.
A hermit crab taking shelter in an empty shell.

| Parasitism? | When an organsism lives on another organism and harms it in the process.
When ticks feed on the blood of an organism.
Aphids eat the sap from plants.

| Limiting Factor? | A part of the environment that prevents a population from reproducing.
The amount of food in an area might be able to provide for just a few of a kind of organism.
Lving space is another example.

| Carrying Capacity | The maximum number of individuals of a species that can exist in a habitat. For example, the wolves in an area eat the moose. If the wolves did not eat the moose, the area would become over-grazed.
