Definition of Assistive Technology   Any item, piece of equipment, or product system, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of a child with a disability.

No-Tech (No-Technology)   Any assistive device that is not electronic.

Examples of No-Tech   -Note-taking -A nonslip placemat on a student's desk that makes it easier for her to pick up items because it stops them from sliding

Low-Tech (Low-Technology)   Low cost (typically non electronic devices)

Examples of Low-tech   -Photo album where a child points to a picture to express what they would like to eat. -A rubber pencil grip that enables a student with a disability to better grasp a pencil or pen.

Specialized Tech   Assistive technology that requires more training and more funds. These items are usually electronic or computerized.

Examples of Specialized Tech   -power wheelchairs -hearing aids -braille readers -specialized computer hardware: such as touchscreens and specialized software.
