Beyond-use date: | Expiration date in which a compounded sterile preparation may not be stored or transported. |
Group purchasing organization: | Organization for which members pay a membership fee. It is used to leverage its collective power to obtain bulk discounts from retailers. |
Personal charge accounts: | An account that a patient has with the pharmacy. Personal charge accounts are like credit cards. Patients can charge their prescriptions to the account and pay them at a later time. The pharmacy then bills the patient after a certain amount of time. |
Prime vendor: | The vendor who is a pharmacy's primary source of medications and other prescription items. |
Reorder point: | The point at which the stock of a particular type of merchandise falls to the minimum number of units of that a pharmacy intends to keep on hand. When inventory falls to this point, the item is reordered. |
Reorder quantity: | The minimum number of units that must be ordered to replenish the inventory to its maximum allowable level. |
Rotate the stock: | A method of stocking shelves in which new bottles are put at the back of the shelf and older bottles are pulled forward. This ensures that older bottles are sold first before they expire. |
Speed shelf: | The shelf located in the dispensing area that holds the most commonly prescribed medications. |
Wholesaler: | A company that buys products from manufacturers and other suppliers and sells these products to pharmacies. Most pharmacies have a primary wholesaler, or prime vendor that the pharmacy orders from. |
