Koizer Chapter 48
Urinary Elimination
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Micturition, voiding, urination | Process of emptying in the UB |
Diuretic | Cholothiazide and furosemide, increase urine formation by preventing te reabsorption of H20 and electroytle fro the tubule of the Kd into bloodstream |
Dysuria | Voiding that is either painful/difficult |
Hematuria | Blood in the urine |
Nocturia | Voiding at night more than 2x |
Oliguria | Less than <30ml/hour |
Anuria | No urine, no Kd fx, lack of urine production |
Dialysis | Technique by which fluids and olecules pass via a semipermeable membrane accordin to the rules of osmosis |
Commode | Toilet that does not use running H2O |
Polyuria | Refers to the production of abnormally large amt of urine by the KD |
Urgency, hesitancy, frequency | Sudden, strong desire to void |
Enuresis | Involuntary uriantion in children |
Urinary Incontient, UI | Involuntary leakage of urine or loss of BD contrl, a health sysmptom not disease |
Neurogenic BD | Impaired neurologic fx can interfere w. normal mechanisms of urine elimination-client does not perceive BD fullness and therefore unable to control the urinary sphincter-BD may become flaccid and distended or spastic w. frequent involuntary urination. |
Cortex part of the Renal parenchyma | Outermost layer, site of glomerui and proximal and distal tubules of nephron |
Medulla part of the Renal paerenchyma | Middle lyer, formed by collecting tubules and ducts |
Papillae part of the Renal Sinus and Pelvis | Projections of renal tissues located at the tips of the renal pyramids |
Minor calyx of calice | Collects urine flow from collecting duct |
Major calyx of calice | Directs urine from renal sinus to renal pelvis |
This is the vascular system of nephron | Renal corpuscle |
Bowman's capsule | A portion of the proximal tubule surrounds the glomerulus |
Renal Tubule | Divided into proximal convoluted tubule, descending loop of Henle, ascending loop of Henle, ascending loop of Henle, distal convoluted tubule, and collecting duct |
Kidney | Two-bean-shaped organ that lie in the retroperitoneal space on either side of the vertebral column; adrenal glands located on top of each Kd |
Nephron | the functional unit of the kidney |
Urine culture and sensitivity | diagnoses bacterial infections of the urinary tract |
Residual urine | amount of urine left in bladder after voiding measured via catheter (permanent or temporary) in bladder |
Creatinine clearance | determines amount of creatinine (waste product of protein breakdown) in the urine over 24 hours, measures overall renal function |
Routine urinalysis, Voided Urine | wash perineal area if soiled, obtain first voided morning specimen; send to lab immediately (should be examined within 1 hour of voiding). |
