Name of part | Description |
Cerebrum | The wrinkly part of the brain. the largest part. interprets info. from the senses, controls movement, and carries our complex mental processes like learning and remember. |
Cerebellum | Coordinates actions of your muscles and helps you keep your balance. second largest part. |
Brainstem | Part between the cerebellum and the spinal cord. controls your involuntary actions (those are done automatically) Example Breathing and Heartbeat. |
Central Nervous system | Includes brain and spinal cord. Control system of the body. all information about what us happening inside or outside is brought to the central nervous system. |
Peripheral Nervous system | All the nerves located outside of the central nervous system. Connects the CNS to the rest of the body. Example: drivers and pedestrians. |
Neuron | cells that carry information through your nervous system. long stringy thing. |
Dendrites | Carries impulses toward the neurons cell body. long stick thing |
Axon | carries impulses the away from the cell body. Bubble like things |
Cell body | Contains the nucleus and other organelles. diamond shape thing |
axon tip | the very end of the axon |
synapse | the joint where 1 neuron can transfer an impulse to another structure. |
Neurotransmitter | transmit signals across a synapse from one neuron (nerve cell) to another 'target' neuron. (google) |
Sensory Neuron | Picks up stimuli from the internal or external environment and converts each stimulus into nerve impulse. acts as link between sensory and motor neurons |
Motor neurons | sends an impulse to a muscle or glad, muscle gland reacts |
lens | focuses light flexible structure like the lens of a camera. bends the light rays image is upside down and backwards |
cornea | covers and protects the front of the eye. clear tissue |
iris | colored part of the eye. surrounds the pupil. |
pupil | opening that light passes through. size of pupil depends on the amount of light that enters the eye |
vitreous humor | transparent jelly like fluid. helps maintain shape. |
Retina | like a movie screen at the back of your head |
optic nerve | creates a blind spot in vision |
tapetum | reflective coding on the back of the eye |
sclera | white outer layer of the eye |
ciliary muscle | a part of the eye that connects to the cerebrum |
