QuestionAnswer
Hardware Physical components of a computer that are unable to operate without software.
Software A set of instructions that direct a computer to perform certain tasks.
Operating System Hardware (OSS) Manages and controls computer hardware so that other software can perform tasks, e.g. Linux, Windows, Mac OS
Cache Temporary storage that allows for information to be quickly accessed.
Central Processing Unit Where the processing of information takes place, e.g. CPU
Input Device Devices that input information/data, e.g. Mouses, keyboards, scanners.
Output Device Devices that output information/data, e.g. Monitors, printers, speakers.
Ethernet Connect computers to the internet or to each other through intranets and internal networking.
Firewire A high performance computer connection that allows the transfer of large quantities of data.
RAM Random Access Memory; temporary memory inside a computer.
Pixel A unit defined by a single colored square on a computer's screen; when grouped in large quantities, they form a picture.
Storage devices A device used to store data for later use, can include internal and external storage.
USB Drive A portable storage device, e.g. Flash drive or Jump drive
Computer Moniter The computer screen and display.
Resolution Defines the clarity of the image projected on the computer's screen.
