Chapter 2 Vocab Words

QuestionAnswer
Computer System The computer and other support devices that work as a team.
Central Processing Unit Often referred to as a CPU, this is where the processing of information takes place.
RAM Temporary memory that is designed to hold new data and is available only while the computer is turned on.
Rom Permanent internal memory inside the system, inaccessible to the user, and is used to store the instructions that are installed or programmed at the manufacturer
Binary Coding System Made up of a series of zeros and ones.
Bit A binary character that is teh smallest unit of binary information.
Cache Provides a temporary storage area that provides a quick access to information.
Input Devices Allow the input of data into the computer
Output Devices Produce the data after it has been processed in hard copy or soft copy.
Resolution Defines the clarity of the image that is seen on the computer screen.
Pixel A single colored square on the screen.
Storage Devices Allow storage of data for later use
Anti-Glare Filter Clear screens that fit over a computer monitor to reduce glare from overhead lights and large windows.
Moisture Guards Thin sheets of plastic that protect keyboards from spills and any unwanted liquids.
Application Software Allows the computer to carry out specific functions such as word processing, etc.
