Forces

Units 5/6 Force/Motion

QuestionAnswer
speed How much distance an object moves in a certain amount of time. Distance / Time
velocity How much distance an object moves in a certain amount of time in a given direction. Distance / Time in a direction
acceleration The change in an objects speed over time. Speeding up, slowing down, and changing direction are all examples of this.
Newton The unit of measure for force. (Stands for Kg m / s2)
weight The amount of force an object exerts based on gravity and its mass.
gravity The force of attraction between two objects. On earth the constant is 9.8 m/s2
unbalanced force When two unequal forces are acting on an object and causes motion.
net force The sum of all the forces on an object.
Newton's law of inertia Objects in motion will stay in motion, and objects at rest will stay at rest unless a force acts on them.
Newton's law of force and acceleration The force placed on an object depends on the mass and acceleration of the object applying the force.
Newton's law of action-reaction For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
balanced force When two equal forces are acting on an object in opposite directions and no motion happens.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
