Dermatomes, Myotomes, Tests and Reflexes for C1 through L4

C5 muscle innervation Deltoid (pure C5: axillary nerve), biceps (C5 and C6), shoulder abduction (middle portion of deltoid and the supraspinatous: suprascapular nerve)
C5 myotome (muscle) testing chicken wing (for deltoid). biceps (try to pull her flexed arm down while she resists) for biceps
C5 dermatome (skin) testing Lateral aspect of the deltoid is most pure area.
C5 reflex testing Biceps tendon
C6 muscle innervation Extensor carpi radialis C6 and ulnaris. (And radial nerve?)
C7 muscle innervation Triceps, wrist flexors and finger extensors
C8 muscle innervation Flexor digitorum superficialis, profundis, lumbricals
C6 myotome (muscle) testing-1 same bicep as C5. but also... wrist extension. (remember the 6 shooter)
C7 myotome (muscle) testing-1 tricep (you can do either of the 2 tests)
C8 myotome (muscle) testing-1 Finger flexors
C6 dermatome (skin) testing Lateral forearm, the thumb, the index finger
C7 dermatome (skin) testing Middle finger
C8 dermatome (skin) testing Distal medial half of forearm (anatomic position) and digits four and five five.
C6 reflex testing Brachioradialis reflex
C7 reflex testing Triceps tendon (SJ10)
C8 reflex testing None
C6 mnemonic/pose Six shooter, then recoil
C7 mnemonic/pose Left arm akimbo. Right arm 'Oh no you don't'
C8 mnemonic/pose Figure eight with fingers curved inside each others' palms
L1,2,3 mnemonic/pose L1,2,3 to the knee
L2,3,4, mnemonic/pose L2,3,4 kick big toe @ the door
L4 mnemonic/pose L4 TO THE FLOOR, medially (BIG TOE)
L5 mnemonic/pose LATERAL SIDE (ALL 3 MIDDLE TOES)
S1 mnemonic/pose To the sun (tippy toes)-- and EVERSION (PINKY TOE) and back of calf (UB56)
S1 (think Dad): tippy toe walk. back of gastroc, PINKY Toe. Reflex= "Achilles' 1 weakness"
L4 (think of making L shape and then 4 shape with your foot): heel walk & foot INVERSION (think of making Figure 4 with you foot). Dermatome is medial leg, arch, Big Toe
T1 think $1 T-bill. dollar bill and finger exercise. Dermatome is HEART channel. Think "I HEART T-BILLS"
C8 remember choir boy pose (wedding and feyness)-- so finger curl thing. soft part of Yin forearm PLUS RING RINGER & PINKY FINGER. no reflex
C7 flipping off someone? hold wrist flexed in and try to pull it up. PLUS that silly finger extension thing. Dermatome= middle finger only?? reflex= SJ10
C6 six shooter. so... bicep thing and wrist (extension) thing. Dermatome= lateral forearm PLUS 1st and 2nd fingers. Reflex= brachioradialis
C5 chicken wing & bicep. dermatome= shoulder and forearm. reflex_ BICEP TENDON
L1,2,3 myotome= iliopsoas? four times inner (start high!) thigh. NO REFLEX
L2,3,4 myotome= leg extension! myotome= 2 medial upper leg, 2 medial calf, ARCH, Big Toe. Reflex= patellar
L5 PILATES (Reflex= biceps femoris) plus Toes Resist Being Pushed Down plus Big Toe pushes up again hand! Dermatome= lateral calf, dorsum of foot, ALL THREE middle toes.
