Rock a naturally formed solid that is usually made up of one or more types of minerals
Magma Molton rock beneath the Earth's surface
Lava Molten rock that reaches a planet's surface through a volcano
Sediment Solid materials such as rock fragments, plants and animal remains, or minerals that are carried by water or by air and that settle on the bottom of a body of water or on the ground
Fossil a trace or the remains of a once-living thing from long ago
Foliation The arrangement of minerals within rocks into flat or wavy parallel bands; a characteristic of most metamorphic rocks.
Metamorphism The process by which a rock's structure or mineral composition is changed by pressure or heat
Erosion The process in which sediment is picked up and moved from one place to another.
Deposition the process in which transported sediment is laid dowm
How do Igneous rocks form? forms when molten rock cools and becomes solid.
How do Intrusive igneous rocks form? an igneous rock where the magma cools within the Earth
How do Extrusive igneous rocks form? an igneous rock where the lava cools on the Earth's surface
parent rock the original sedimentary or igneous rock that is changed by heat or pressure or both to create metamorphic rock
How do Sedimentary rocks form? forms when pieces of older rocks, plants and other loose materials get pressed or cemented together
How does coal form? it's a sedimentary rock made from plants
How does Limestone form? it's a sedimentary rock made from shells and skeletons
